彩涂板的镀层就绕不开彩涂板的基板，顺便也可以讲一讲镀锌板。彩涂板的基板可以分为（常用的，不常用的就暂不介绍）：冷轧、电镀（冷镀）、热镀锌和热镀铝锌。彩涂板规格中，Z180是指：每平米（/㎡）的彩涂板双面镀锌（其化学符号为Zn，Z是其简写）量为180g；AZ150是指每平米（/㎡）的彩涂板双面镀铝（其化学符号为Al，A是其简写）锌量为150g。
